Food Hack For Picky Eaters- One Kids Will Love

If your kids are anything like mine, they can be the pickiest eaters! It’s seems like a never ending struggle in our house. One of the best ways I’ve found to help ease the struggle and actually get them to try new foods, is to let them play with the food. Whaaat?!?! Hear me out.

When introducing something new like a veggie or fruit, this can be especially easy. Always be sure to uses some foods that they are already familiar with and love, and mix in one or two new flavors or textures. This way they are still interested. For example, I came across this food art picture of these adorable edible flowers.

My three year old loves strawberries and blueberries, but has never tried cucumber (which I decided to use as the leaves), and she’s only had pretzels once before. Start off by deciding what favorite foods you’re going to use and what new foods you’re going to introduce.

I used:

  • 1 Graham Cracker
  • A thin layer of cream cheese icing
  • 1 strawberry sliced up
  • 1 blueberry
  • 1 small pretzel rod
  • 1 thin sliced mini cucumber (cut in 1/2)
  • A small hand full of mini chocolate chips

Now it’s time for the fun part… CREATING! Let your kiddos do the majority of the creating with occasional help from you as needed. Then, snap a picture and let them start eating their masterpiece.

Incase you’re wondering how ours turned out, here it is. She did eat the pretzel as long as there was some icing on it, and she didn’t love the cucumber, but at least she tried it without tears. The experts always say it takes several times for kids to like certain foods, so the fact that she didn’t spit it right out or cry is a win in my book! In a few days or weeks, we will try again,

Happy creating your own food art! 😋

Until next time,

Erica
